As it eludes to on the cover of the coffee table book, “Adventuring in the Haunting, Beautiful, and Wild Icelandic Landscape,” this concept was a personal project that came out of an almost obsessive need to recap one of the most impactful photographic projects of 2018.
The land of Ice and Fire. The elements. The building blocks of our existence. All of these were overwhelmingly part of this project's direction. The challenge to reflect on the adventure honestly, and share the spirit adventure out into the world, gave birth to Ævintýri.
We began by developing a storyline for the layout flow, centering around specific element categories: ice, fire, rock, and light. The 1,100 photographs captured were organized into these tiers and each given a meticulous color grade that captured the hies, tints and shades of it's parent element.
By tethering the story to each element, we were able to curate each section down to a collection of 10 or so images ,coupled with a featured image highlighting the best stills. Our toned down design system in monochromatic grayscale allowing the element's unique palettes stand boldly in front. What we ended up with was a true reflection of the spirit of adventure in the haunting, beautiful, and wild Icelandic landscape.
